[KitGuru] Samsung botches 960 Pro SSD firmware update - Page 4

Damn I have a Samsung 960 Pro on the way from Amazon and I hope it is not affected. I guess the problematic firmware came out after this unit left the factory or else I am gonna cry...mad.gif

It only affects m.2 as the 960 pro is only m.2 nvme.

Update: It has been over a week since the last reply from Samsung, we're still waiting for a solution! This is crazy.

And my fear for receiving an affected unit (have an 960 Pro on its way here) might INDEED COME TRUE!

I just read on the Samsung forum that some user bought a drive with the "bad" firmware 1-2 weeks ago.

Anyone bought a drive that has this bad firmware out of the box?

I won't be able to test it since the parts for my new PC won't be all here until mid January (my old PC does not support M2 drives)

Check the date it was manufacturer, if there is one, if it is before the bad FW.

You might very well receive a botched drive, sorry!

Update:

SamsungDave has replied to the Samsung Community thread stating they hope to have updated firmware by January. I think we can take that meaning firmware will be released no sooner than the beginning of January.

Does anyone know if a class action suit could gain traction in this situation?

I will receive it within the next 2-3 days so I will do this. I ordered it from Amazon.de (from them not a merchant) so I guess returning it if no solution emerges by Samsung won't be impossible.

I won't be putting together the system before mid-to-end of January so this would be fine. What worries me the most is whether they will come up with a proper solution.

I wonder why is it so hard to re-release the previous firmware "masked" as new. I am by no means a firmware expert, but apparently there is something deeper into play and I hope that no permanent damage is incurred to the drives.

One issue that comes to mind is rolling back the e-drive feature for people that have it enabled. They also may have found a larger underlying issue or maybe our drives are damaged and they trying to figure out their next move? Who knows.
