They can't. Too many die hard fans who won't sacrifice a single frame per second to invest in a growing architecture.

The only chance of a reversal is if Intel makes a misstep. They only release small iterative improvements so this isn't going to happen.

But yeah there should be a 10nm hedt refresh on x299 like the 32-22nm refresh on x99.


HEDT flatform has always jumped over number though? X58-79-99-299 so IceLake-X should be X499.

 

 

But yeah 10nm HEDT is unlikely I guess they just go with "moar cores" refresh on CascadeX then. From 28c die to the rumored 38c IceLake (ISX) is a lot to put another core count increasement in the middle to the roadmap.

These clocks should be a lot more common for 14nm++. Possibly IPC on top of that?
