[arsTechnica] Nintendo brings HD Wii games to China’s Nvidia Shield—is Switch next?

Story here

Looks like the Wii games are running off of nVidia GeForce streaming service. This makes me wonder since when the shield came out the software team at nVidia was doing all the work porting over titles to it like Half Life, so wonder who is doing all the work in the background to bring these games to the Shield?

Not to steer this thread in the wrong direction, but there's no technical reason why Dolphin 3.0 can't run on the shield TV. I don't think there would be significant work from Nvidia or Nintendo to get this up and running.

Perhaps optimizing for handheld mode will be tough with the GPU clock.

If it was the a11 bionic chip from apple, I would probably say it has enough CPU Power to handle Dolphin.

Nvidia Shield has the GPU Power, but the CPU side is nothing special.

Dolphin doesn't run to my liking on my little Haswel dual core celeron 1.3ghz box, in that I can't run Metroid Prime at 1080p without dips/stutters at times. Those Haswell Cores are faster than the Denver Cores.

They already confirmed that Metroid Prime is coming to the Shield and will run at 1080p60.
Lots of optimization going on here.

And yeah sorry I forgot to put it in the title that this is China ONLY right now. We can only hope that the virtual console games will soon hit the Switch (highly doubt US Shield's will get this).

I said there was no way that we'd see backwards compatibility on the Xbox One for Xbox 360 games, but Microsoft proved us all wrong. If Nintendo wants to make an emulator work on the shield, I'm sure they could do it since they wouldn't need to reverse engineer anything like Dolphin does. Does this remind anyone else of the Philips CD-i though?

Via the Nvidia Streaming Service.

Same thing as Playstation's Service for playing old PS3 games on a PS4.

Thanks, but No Thanks.

We Need to Remember these games are being Streamed....

I've Tried PS Now, and would never use the service again after my experience. I'm sure Nvidia's Service is no better.

That's true, we're all just gonna have to wait and see.

I can't see it being a streamed game if and when it comes to the switch tho.
