But it would not be smart to do if he want the unit to last as long as it can. He could get quite a bit of extra time out of it if he keeps it at a lower continuous power draw. How much exactly? Not sure, I don't know if anyone has had enough time yet to test these units on how long they last at 100%, 80%, etc loads while mining

No way those 4 GPUs will draw 800W if properly configured for mining. Then again I'm unsure of what the op is going for here.

250W, 2x 150W, 120W, plus the extra bits of the rest of the rig? You may be right, and that is why it comes down to what rickyman0319 wants. It is cutting a bit close to the 75%-80% mark, but if he does do a little bit of customization it could work.

That being said, he should definitely use one card for gaming in the "gaming" rig and mine on that when he isn't playing anything.

ok i was going to buy a Corsair RM750x 750W
in hopes of running 3x 1070 will buy that if it will work ? any other suggestions welcome. I am in INdia so have limited brands available.

As we learned earlier in this thread, a GTX 1070 can pull about 160W. Multiplied by 3 is 480W. For mining, add roughly 100W for the rest of the system. That's 580, or maybe 600W. Real PSU experts say to avoid letting the average power consumption exceed 40-60% of the PSU's capacity so that the PSU isn't being overworked in the long run. Since mining is done 24/7 for a very long time, 600W is not good for a 750W PSU - even the RM750x. It can do it, sure, but I really don't know what would happen to it if it were subjected to that 24/7 for many months. 600W is 80% of 750W.

Sounds logical, I will eventually be having two rigs mining one with 1x970 + 1x 1070 +4790k for this i will get the 750w which should suffice as per the calcs posted by you, Later when i go for another 3x 1070 + a single dual core chip build will go for a good 850w/1000w unit ?

Yeah, it seems both of these plans fall within the 40-60% recommendation. I admit that I don't really know what would happen with a very high-end PSU if the continous power consumption were more like 80 or 90% of the PSU's capacity, especially if it were 24/7 for several months, but that whole not knowing thing kinda prevents me from being able to recommend going higher than 40-60%. So you're making good plans. :)
