The "New Coke" long con, just facilitated this time via impressionable tech bloggers that failed to procure CES badges and really need doze hits, yo.

In fairness, there's probably more than a few CTOs that are right now trying to convince their CFO to re-allocate this years budget over this IT "emergency".

Sales man... it's dog eat dog.

After the article was published, Navin Shenoy, executive vice president and general manager of Intel's Data Center Group, issued a statement addressing the matter. "We have received reports from a few customers of higher system reboots after applying firmware updates," said Shenoy. "Specifically, these systems are running Intel Broadwell and Haswell CPUs for both client and data center. We are working quickly with these customers to understand, diagnose and address this reboot issue."

Well, I was going to do the Windows update.

But I think my mobo just sealed the deal.
It either gone belly up or something else gone belly up (still troubleshooting).

Maybe that I sign I should update the main computer to a Threadripper.

I'd switch to Linux before shelling out $600 for a new build just because of some CPU issue. This 4790K will be the last Intel CPU I ever buy now that AMD is back in the game. (not an Intel fanboi)

Your Steam and/or Blizzard accounts is/are potentially vulnerable. If you can live with that, do so.

I was really hoping this wasn't the case, but then it struck me as highly suspicious that the older the CPU, the bigger the performance impact. Could Intel be intentionally bricking CPU performance with this patch the same way Apple has bricked performance of the iPhone in the name of saving battery life?

If there's any truth to this, it's that CPUs are hitting a brick wall in that it's harder to make them faster, and adding more cores only improves performance so much. So what other alternative is there than planned obsolescence through updates that slow the performance down only on older hardware.

And there's also the matter of Intel purposely using inferior thermal interface material under the IHS which hinders heat transfer to the heatsink ever since Sandy Bridge.

At least they cannot blame AMD for this issue as MS did. Becasue not only AMD machines had bluescreens after installing the patch.

yikes, i was not aware of the blue screens perhaps i installed the wrong update... is it KB4056897? I'm always over zealous to "fix" things...
