On my 1600 build with MSI B350M Mortar MB, the fan is awfully loud, gives off a sort of low pitched whirling sound, this seems to dampen/lessen if I press down firmly on the fan (near the AMD logo). I therefore gather its potentially due to vibrations caused by the fan. I have double checked the screws and they are firmly screwed into the MB's back plate, and the MB it firmly attached to the case. I can wobble the fan from side to side just about, and it causes the MB to bend a bit but I think that is normal? The cooler is firmly attached.
Does it sound likely that I have a faulty fan? its really irritating sound - my 5 year old build was actually quieter!

It possible that you may have a faulty fan. Things happen. Open a support ticket with AMD and they should issue you a new fan as it all has a warranty. Nothing really to get upset about.
Never said I was upset, was just wondering whether its a normal sound and I had too high expectations for what to expect from a bundled cooler, probs easier to just exchange through amazon, avoid the hassle of AMD's infamous RMA service.
That's what I thought reading reviews, one thing I have noticed though is that they apparently originally used a 5 fin cooler master fan, but switched to a cheaper 7 blade AVC fan, which is the one I have - and appears to not be as silent as its original counterpart
I've had two faulty out of the box.
Wraith Spire with my 1500X was making a grinding noise. Amazon sent me a new retail package (new CPU and cooler) and this one is also making a grinding noise.
The cooling capability is superb for a stock retail cooler but the quality control is poor.
Did you end up with two CPU's or did they make you send the original one back?
Wee update on this for me, I also was planning on returning to Amazon but they offered me £30 refund if I kept the cooler, and sorted the problem myself which I accepted. I then raised the issue with AMD and after some back and forth they eventually sent me a replacement cooler. The new one is whisper quiet! the one I got sent is actually different - uses the 5 blade fan version and I guess this is better quality. so overall pretty happy with how it worked out
They sent me a new retail boxed 1500x and asked me to return the original CPU and cooler.
I'm in two minds about simply replacing the whole thing but why should I have to when the original design is a great cooler just lacks quality control.
