Tuniq Tower not working right? - Page 2

I think your not mounting it right. It has to be perfectly level with the IHS or else it wont cool very well.
Very nice!

well - I put it straight down on the cpu, then I screw in each screw clockwise 1/4 turn at a time until I can't screw the pins in anymore

is that right?

Ok, so I just spent the last hour lapping the CPU and getting the thermal paste on with a razor (works much better than a credit card btw).

CPU is all shiny now - no hint of nickel, all copper.

However I'm still getting 45/65 when OC'ed to 3.0

I didn't lap the tuniq (tried to, but it's so damn heavy it's hard to keep it down on the mirror)

thoughts?

bump

Hey that metal plate that goes over the CPU - does anybody remove that? It seems like it would interfere with the heatsink laying flat on the CPU...?

Why are you spreading it with a razor? That could scratch it. Just put a dot in the center and the HS will spread it. Are you sure the TT is properly oriented? I had terrible temps when mine was facing 90 degrees the wrong way.

As to your question.
Are you referring to the IHS on the CPU? I think removing it voids warranty.

If the Tuniq is unlapped then you should use more than a grain of rice for it.

Lapped, use a little bit less.

Properly mount and properly put on the thermal paste as you have previously been told.

Missing one step though: bake.

You need to run orthos or some stress program to get the thermal paste to properly "connect" the hs and cpu.

I have had the same problem as you, and it was solved by running the cpu on full load over night.

65 c is safe for an overnighter which will end it at 55 or so, or you can run it at say 75% on intel tat so that it is at 55, then it will decrease to to 45 or so in the morning.

Don't spread the thermal paste, just apply it and seat the heatsink. The pressure of the heatsink will evenly spread the thermal paste.
