Ok well the system requirements and recommended requirements are GROSSLY underestimated in the RAM category. If you want to run it at high, you HAVE to have 2Gb of RAM. I am currently in the process of RMAing my Cronus 2Gb kit, so I have 1Gb of Infineon memory running at 230 Mhz. I have had to hard boot my PC due to system hangs because my RAM was swamped with textures......
so yea be careful before you select the default config if you have a good GFX card but 1Gb of RAM.

Noooooooo! (1 GB RAM user).......
Perhaps it's also because of the difference in the quality of RAM as well.

Nope. I'm running decent Infineon chips that I have OCed to 237 MHz at default timings, but they can get better timings. Timings really don't do much for gaming unless you make drastic changes.
Anyhow.........
If you turn the texture detail and object detail, as well as grass density (LOL wannabe physics terms) you can lessen the amount of texture data and lessen the amount of page file swapping that occurs. I could play multiplayer on all high settings and get 75-150FPS, but on SP I couldn't even exit the first area where you talk to some sort of bossman that gives you missions.
I managed to get by on 1Gb with everything on high except those mentioned settings, and I turned shadow detail to minimum for now.

This game is REALLY buggy too:
I've had to hard boot about 10 times while troubleshooting settings, as the game wouldn't respond to ALT+F4 commands when it froze, or cntrl+alt+del. It may have been that the RAM was drowning in the texture data. I could see my mouse cursor from time to time when it froze (only sometimes).

I would be pretty upset if I read the game box and it said 512Mb minimum, 1Gb recommended and I bought the game, only to find out that the game runs horribly with 1Gb. I don't know how it would run at all with 512 Mb.

Other than that it looks promising, but I just gave up and I'm going to play BF2142 now because it's taking too long to get the game running right, and it isn't my system because I just installed XP fresh a few days ago.
Whatever.

Tomorrow when I'm less frustrated I'm going to find out which Team Xtreem Cronus module is bad and try the game with 1 1Gb Cronus stick, 1 512 Infineon, and 1 512 Infineon in single channel so I can see how it runs with 2Gb. It should run flawlessly, as the only time it stutter was when the HDD was swapping, and the activity light was going nuts.

Ok update, I lied I wanted to get it running well. So if you have a gig of RAM and a good GFX card, then use these settings:
Basic should be set to high by default if you have a dual core CPU with a decent GFX card. Here are the advanced:
You should be fine bar a few lags for different texture loading points. At this point the pagefile will go nuts swapping the textures from your HDD to your RAM.
