Check these wiki articles out. There is some really cool stuff here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zone_of_alienation#Status
and the movie before the meltdown
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalker_%28movie%29
interesting!

Quote:
Access to the zone for brief visits is, however, readily possible; day-tours are available (to the public) from Kiev, and scientists and contracted workers visit the area and the plant itself as required.

No thanks......

An account of a US Department of Energy official regarding the wildlife in the exclusion zone.
We replied that, although a quantitative assessment is difficult, the net ecological impact has been positive
meaning that the animal and plant life has flourished! They say because humans evacuated the area. Crazy!

The graphics are amazing. I actually use my flashlight in the daylight sometimes because the amazing lighting that bounces and highlights the textures makes me want to be a better person. It's just that good.

I do have one complaint: I have to say that I think the A.I. in this game is pretty weak. Enemies were shooting me through trees when I couldn't see ANYTHING, not even my own gun barrel because I was in a bush at the time. This is also when I payed careful attention to slowly approach as to not draw attention. Is there a way to truly sneak? The military guys are seriously hard when you are indoors and thus they flank you when you don't have trees to coverup.

Dudes, I need help.

I'm trying to get to the hanger, but there are just WAY to many bandits....can I go through the garbage, instead of going around on the road? I tried following that guy I helped around the other side of the garbage, but the radiation level was to high...beats me how he made it over there, lol.

You've got the AK type gun right? Personally I used that and moved from cover to cover, and took out most if not all the bandits. I tried running through the garbage, but was practically boiled alive so I gave that up.

the more broken your gun is (or used) the more it starts to jam. i found an AK-74 with an fast shooting mod on it. at first the gun never jammed, but using it for an few hours it started to jam. and some guns just jams allot

Anyway, the game really starts to shine when you get underground and see the lighting effects in action.
I hereby withdraw any slander of this games graphics that I may have made, because WOW they green radioactive ooze anomolies along with all of the lighting really set the mood.
I think the problem is that the foliage looks like crap, but they lighting affects and building geometry and textures are above average. If the foliage was on par with the lighting and building textures then this would be the best looking game I've ever played. As a matter of fact, it pretty much is. I don't even have the textures turned up until I get my 2Gb RAM kit back from RMA.

Blowie:
Did you have to kill the military at that checkpoint (eventually)? Because I had to, as they were shooting at me first. Now I'm having to take them on underground too, not to mention help the other stalkers fight them. I guess I may have taken a different role.
I played this game for like 6 hours today!

BTW, when you get to the chokepoint near the train yard, where you have to defend a second stalker camp from bandits, run past them after you get the completed mission. If you don't, then they will keep coming at you indefinitely.
I wasted boatloads of ammo killing waves of bandits.....d'oh. Also, the best way past them is around the left side of the security wall ( if you're facing the path to the Agropa-whatever facility)
I HATE BANDITS
well if you didn't shoot them at the the chokepoint, they will still shoot you. they just ain't friendly. and no you don't haver to shoot them. you can sneak pass them by getting of the railroad (fence is broken).

for everyone. try to read your PDA's info as much as you can. it will make things allot more clearer

and i hate to say it, but i told ya ! that the graphics are great

you just crouch without making an sound (check your db-meter). but still you ain't splinter cell and people do notice you when you crouch in the lights....

you're playing it on 'stalker' or 'veteran' ? and the beginning is a bit hard, but later on when you got an AK-74 (not the AK-74/U2 that you have). and the bandits are an pain the ass, but when you have that done and stole the military documents. you won't see as much bandits anymore as you did in the beginning...
