Core Voltage

Thread Starter
i was able to get a 2600+ over clocked up to 2.21 ghz, just messing around with the multiplier and the fsb, but when i did anything that was demanding on the processor the computer would lock up, windows would boot fine, but i tried to install symantec and it wouldn't go through. i read somewhere that you should increase the core voltage by increments of .25 until the machine runs stable, is this true.

also i have an old motherboard that im going to put a 2400+ in, the highest fsb setting is 133, and the manual says the highest multiplier setting is >=12.5, if i increase the core voltage can i get a higher operating frequencies?

thanks in advance

in a nutshell, yes, more Vcore yeilds a better OC, but with that come higher temperature, whick you want to keep below 55-60C

i read that in the tutorial also that you should stay below 50C which confuses me, because every AMD i have had, excluding my 939 has ran higher than that, i had a 2700+ xp thoroughbred that was a great processor never had problems, i spent $15.00 on thermal compound with silver nitrate in it, and it still ran at 70C the entire two years i had it, it ran that hot all the time, the 2600+ im playing around with now, with everything where it is supposed to be runs 60-68.

ive given up, i followed the over clocking guide verbatim and no matter what combination of multiplier, vcore, or fsb, i end up at 2.13GHz, which is where the machine started, the highest i got it was 2.21 when i ran the Prime95' test it crashed, even when i got back to the original settings the torture test still crashed, at 2.2 GHz it was running at 65C

Well, that was short lived! If you're serious about ocing, be patient, and learn from the OCN community. There are many ppl here who can help you.

You should run some stability tests seeing if your pc is stable....use orthos since it's easy to use! You up your voltage to get your pc stable...once it's stable your system should be working just fine! But since you are raising you voltage...check your temps and keep them under 60 degrees! You may want to in a better heatsink since your doing this!

should the computer be locking up and shutting off if its below the maximum operating temperature though? is it possible that the processor may be locked, even though it isnt a barton core
