xbox 360 >> Pc Conversion ???

Thread Starter
I've been looking around for a answer that i cannot find. Hopefully someone knows the answer here. How does the xbox 360 reconize it's a xbox 360 game? Does it have some sort of program on the HD that recognized it? Could it be a special Optical Drive? Anyway, I want to get to the root of how xbox 360's recognized the games so maybe i could format a HD on my pc to recognized 360's games.

Basically i'm looking for a way to get my pc to be able to run 360's games. I've heard of people doing it but for the life of me i can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

I doubt it is possible. If it was, people would not ever need to buy a 360.

It's just not that the system has to recognize, they system also needs to be able to run. It's like putting a XP disk into a CD player.

Well it is close to impossible, the 360 has a first gen R600 Xenos chip in it and a 3 core IBM chip. Emulating would take tons of power to do so.

If you have heard people saying this is possible they are lying…

The only possible way to play a 360 game on a PC is through HARDWARE emulation which needs to be SOFTWARE based, an example is any working emulator such as SNES9X or Porject64, what they do is hardware emulation by software.

You can’t rig up a 360/PC hybrid as they are like oranges and lemons… Not a great analogy but you probably understand, both fruits but completely different.

I don’t think we will ever see a working 360 emulator, or by the time we do we will be on probably 3 or more console generations… We don’t even have a fully playable PS2 emulator.

So best advice is… Buy a 360, if you want a PC 360 then get a BIG arse case that can support 2 mobos and mod it… one side PC the other 360 then you wont have to move from your PC to play.

I know you can install Linux on a regular XBox, but not a 360 as far as I know. Like DeadLock said, it is nearly impossible to emulate the 360 with what we have now. IT'll probably be a while.

Hmm... Could be a good use for the Mozart TX. Put a 360's internals in the side where theres room for a miniATX board.

What they said.

As to how the game is recognized...all discs have some data encoded on them to identify the type of disc they are to whatever is trying to play them. The more common types are obviously standard DVD, DVD-R, etc. Microsoft came up with a couple new types for their discs, one for XBox and now X360 discs. Only those consoles will know what to do with a disc that identifies itself as one of these types of discs.

Then there's the whole multiple layers of security, the hypervisor, etc. So even once a disc is identified as an X360 disc, there's a lot more fiery hoops to jump through before the game gets moving.
