Any E4300 Questions Here - Page 29

Hi there,

I'm new to this overclocking game but found this thread useful so thought I'd start my forum posting here..

I'm running:

e4300
Asus P5N-e SLI
Zalman CNP 9500
3.0 GHz (333x9)
Vcore 1.48V

CPU temp is 46C with both cores under full load (Folding @ home).
Goes down to 42 if i take the side of my PC case off! Room temp is about 25C.

I originally had it clocked at 2.4 with everything on auto and FSB at 266 (1066 QDR)... but I thought i could get a little more based on peoples reports in the forums.

It does seem like there are FSB holes in my setup (not sure if it's just the mobo or the mobo/cpu combination), but I could only get it past 2.4 by going for a 333 FSB, could not POST with any other FSB (e.g. 300)

However the only way I could run stable and finish a benchmark at 333 was by incrementing the BIOS Vcore to 1.48 - this seems a bit high compared to other peoples configs.

My sys monitor (lmsensors/gkrellm under Ubuntu) reports vcore of between 1.42 and 1.46 so I take it that the Vcore can fluctuate ?

Is 1.48 Vcore too much or do you think i'll be ok with this cooler?

Thanks!

what's a descent SuperPi time with these e4300's? At 2.6GHz (which is max for my motherboard) I get 23 seconds. Is that good? Going to buy my 2nd stick of ram for a soon to be 2048MB like my sig states, will that do anything to improve superpi 1MB times as I'll have dual channel mode then?

I'm running orthos now, it's loading at around 58C. It idles around 40C.

I still want more though! I tried 403x8 and I got it to boot! However it would fail orthos within 2 seconds. But I will keep experimenting.

But great thread, thank you muncher for all the great advice
Nice temps.. Glad 8x worked out for you..

Instead of 403fsb, have you tried 401x8? If it boots it maybe closer to stable than you think.. They either boot or don't boot at that speed.. 403fsb is no different than 401fsb.. The cpu and mobo are overdrawn at that strap and no performance gain is made.. Even tho it shows a higher overall speed, nothing really changes.. If 401 or 400 doesn't work for you, try 391fsb.. 391fsb is what my first day of ocing got me.. After fine tuning I got to 400fsb..

CPUZ doesn't always read the correct vcore.. and other times read vcore with the vdroop.. So don't worry about that.. Also if you posted at 403fsb and were not stable, try upping your vcore to 1.4v.. And make sure your RAM vdimm is high enough for your RAM, default is 1.8v... Also make sure you keep your bridge coolers cool.. Add fans to them if you need to.. They get hot with a 100% increase in fsb..

So far the newest ones I have seen results on are the week 6 of 2007.. Some will say that the E4300's do not oc as well as earlier models, but they still will hit 3ghz with the right motherboard and RAM.. Get ddr2-800 ram, or Crucial Ballistics ddr2-667.. That way the RAM won't hinder your oc..

Get a 965p motherboard.. If money is tight, get the Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 for under $90... A great fair priced motherboard..

Get a good cooler as they do get hot.. But most have found lapping, or removing the IHS helped them run cooler..

1.48 is not too much.. Most say to keep it under 1.5vcore.. And yes vcore will flux.. I am surprised that your temps are so low with such a high vcore.. That's nice..

Now I would suggest what I have suggested to so many others, Run the 8x multi instead of the 9x.. 9x needs a lot more vcore to run stable.. 8x usually needs less than 1.4vcore to run 400fsb.. But not all 4300's will do 400fsb.. Try the 8x multi and let us know your results..

First off your times are good.. I get 21s @ 1m running at 355fsbx9... So your doing fine I think..

As far as adding more ram.. I found with my system that made very little difference.. So little in fact that I returned the ram and saved the money..

I just it to run at 405x8, 401 wouldn't post for me. But it seems like 402-405 do. I bumped the vcore to 1.425 and it just ran orthos for 2 minutes then failed. im guessing if i bump the vcore even higher it might be stable? I don't know if i want to run the vcore that high though...

Hey guys. i'm a total noob to OCing, i'm trying to get a decent clock out of my E4300.

Here's my setup (the stuff that matters):
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

I've followed the steps here...
http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=610&p=2

...to get things going. Obviously I wasn't able to hit 386x9 like they insisted was possible. I'm sitting at about 3.06Ghz right now, but I'm concerned with the temps. I'm still on the OEM retail cooler with 3 80mm case fans (one blows in from front, two blow out back). Any tips, suggestions, etc? How much of an OC can i expect with the stock cooler? I'm happy with ~3ghz but i dont want to burn stuff up.

The only thing i changed from whats above was lowering the CPU Host Clock Frequency. While running prime95 and watching speedfan I saw my core temps get to the low 60*C. Is that too high to be safe?

Your temps are ok..

Read the last few posts about fsb speed and multipliers.. That may help you lower temps and vcore..

as long as your temps are okay, you can go to 1.5v on air.
