This is my first time at this forum, I"m a noob, so, sorry in advance if I sound stupid. This is my first time trying to Overclock.
So I've had my E4300 for 2 years now, and I want to try to overclock it to use extend it's useful life for another two years.
I have an Asus P5Q Pro turbo motherboard and 4 gigs of ram at 5-5-5-12.
Currently I just boosted it up to 2.25 Ghz by changing the FSB to 250 @ 9 multiplier and maintaining the cpu voltage at auto which I've read should default to 1.325v.
Problem comes in when I try to boost it past that, I can run most games and programs fine, but even at 2.25 ghz loading is rather slow and when I run the Prime95 stress test, it fails after a an hour or so. So, not the most stable setup, but for my day to day use it's fine.
I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for me? My goal would be to get it to a stable 2.5 - 2.8 ghz and I"ll be happy. Anything more would be Icing on the cake. I'm just not very sure how to test and how I should fiddle with the CPU voltage. I read on the box of the processor that it said Max voltage was 1.35v. I might have an earlier batch, NOt sure.
Any help would be great.
