Introduction:
For those of you who have a G15 keyboard from Logitech, you already have experienced the joy of having the LCD screen. With programs that display stats for games like Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142, as well as the default programs that come with the keyboard to monitor computer usage, multimedia programs, etc., you are well on your way to getting a step up on your G15-less peers.
But for those of you who are like me, what is already out there isn't enough to quench your thirst. Thus, I am here to create an archive of even more G15 LCD programs for your viewing pleasure!
I would also like this thread to be for anyone who has questions about using the LCD program creation software "LCD Studio", which is the best program I have found, though this may change depending upon the number of problem posts since this thread is to be mainly an archive.
Instructions for Posting LCD Programs:
1) Attach the program files to the post or provide a link to its location if you are not the author.
2) State the author of the program
3) Give the program version number so I can keep the archive properly updated. (This means you should post any updated versions as well!)
4) List any software dependencies your program has (e.g. LCD Studio).
5) List any system hardware that may be required to run your program properly (e.g. a quad core processor).
6) Give the features of your program; this will help people find a program that suits their needs much easier, and will allow me to place the program into the proper categories.
It is also suggested that you post a small image of the program in action so that potential users can see what they will be getting. See the next post in this thread, in which I have uploaded my own G15 LCD Program, for an example.
When I have all of the above information I will edit this first post to add the LCD program into any and all pertinent categories. If you are a member of these forums, I will make a link to the post where you give me your LCD program so that you can get rep for your hard work (I neither want nor deserve your rep).
For now, the programs will be listed into 3 categories: System Monitoring, Games, and Miscellaneous. If a program belongs in multiple categories it will be placed in them. Programs listed in the Games and Miscellaneous categories will be listed by the purpose of the program (i.e. by the game it supports, or the miscellaneous task it performs). As such, it is important that you list all of your program's features when posting one!
Using LCD Studio:
LCD Studio (download it here) does the same thing as the SDK that comes with your G15, but does not require the user to know any programming language or have access to compilers. Because of this, it requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 to be installed. However, since you are not compiling anything yourself, you cannot "lock" your programs from being edited by a third party if you post them. You have been warned.
LCD Studio gets its variables from Windows and other software alike, such as ATITool and SpeedFan. Thus, those programs must be running or LCD Studio is not getting fed any variables. Furthermore, those programs must be loaded before LCD Studio is started in order for LCD Studio to recognize the variables. I have not found an option in LCD Studio to delay its running at the startup of your system, so if you have LCD Studio set to start when Windows starts, it may load before the other required software does and will either give you an error or not recognize your program variables. For now, I just run LCD Studio manually when Windows starts so I don't have to deal with this issue. The outlook is not entirely bad, though! You can configure LCD Studio to load any LCD Studio-created programs you desire when it starts. Doing so simply requires that you can create a "playlist," and set that playlist to be loaded whenever LCD Studio starts.
For creation of any programs, I highly recommend using LCD Studio's Quick Start Guide. It is short and to the point, showing everything needed in order to create a own program. This is located in the Help Menu of LCD Studio. Things are really just a matter of "drag and drop" from LCD Studio's menus, wherein the display feature desired is selected and its properties edited to connect it to any one of numerous compatible programs. Thus, I simply point the reader towards the Quick Start Guide since any tutorial on a forum would be no more in depth than what is already provided. Feel free to ask any questions that arise from use of LCD Studio, though!
There are two major drawbacks to using LCD Studio. First, you cannot keep your programs from being edited by another party, which was mentioned previously. Second, LCD Studio can require many other programs to run in the background, meaning that those of us with slower systems and less RAM may experience poor performance while using LCD Studio. For those of us with faster systems and more RAM, though, LCD Studio can provide an easy way to create customized LCD programs for our G15s without the need for programming knowledge or compilers.
Finally, it should be noted that some programs, such as SpeedFan, read different variables for different setups, so if you download a program that is made for a system not exactly like yours, you should check that the values displayed on the G15 LCD are the same as those given in the program used. If they do not correlate, some simple changes are required to the program (but you will need the author's permission to make those changes). The G15 LCD display will also lag a few seconds behind the actual programs it is reading the variables from in terms of data updating, so keep this in mind when verifying that the G15 LCD program is reading the data properly.
