How can I make fan spin faster?

Thread Starter
I have a stock E6400 IHS and fan running at 100%. SpeedFan is 100% and in my BIOs, the option for the fan limit thing is off.

How can I make my fan spin even faster? I have heard you can add voltage to them but I have no idea how.

instead of risking damaging the fan and overheating the cpu, spend the $ and get a cooler.

Good question--in theory putting the 5 and the 12V together should provide 17 volts......not sure if your fan would like that. The yellow wire is 12 the red wire is 5...don't get mad at me if your PSU starts smoking!

IMO it would be safer to buy a higher cfm fan...

then all you have to do is put more juice thru it like druid said. Just keep taps on it just in case.

It needs NOS!

Yeah, overvolting it will either cause it to spin faster or die. Or spin faster then die.
yea, you will want to increase the voltage to it. Just watch to make sure you don't fry the motor. The motor will get EXTREMELY hot before it goes, so if you can reach the motor you can test it by hand.

the only problem with that is that your gonna increase the amps a bit too...that...will kill that fan...i had a 140mm running at 24 volts.....heh..rated at 12-16...it uhh...got sorta hot...and stopped working...so i gave it 16 gauge wire leads and now it works...pretty much add some volts possible a inline fuse....if you want to be sure not to cook your fan...
