building wood case project !!!

i want to build my own wooden case but i don't want to start measuring all the components, so i'm asking you if you have some kind of plan or drawing of such a case or if you can give me a link or something like that !
it has to be a large case !!!!!
pls tell me what kind of material should i use for that (what kind of wood) if you know...

thanks for your help !

Interesting idea...should prove to be a quiet case.

You can go about this a number of ways (I'll look for some schematics in the meantime)

You can build a thin-walled lighter weight case by using thin particle board (the inexpensive but messy route)

Or you can build a monster case, large and heavy using MDF (the expensive fiberboard, will cut cleaner) 1 or 1.5 4'x8' sheets ought to do it.

Are you interested in building just the shell out of wood, and then the internals will be metal? For instance, harddrive brackets if made of wood will be very cumbersome and hard to deal with. You don't want the brackets and other "peripherals" driving the size of your shell.

If I've gone over your head, or something is unclear, feel free to call me stupid and ask questions. :nerdsmile

I would just make the frame, then when you NEED to screw something in, make the holes on the spot!

17 3/8" X 7 3/4" X 19" (HeightxWidthxLength) For a full tower case.

I just looked for full tower/server cases, and picked some sizes.

A full size server case would be along the lines of:

12"W x 22"D x 30"H

These dimensions should get you started...

Remember, Wood is more an insulator, so you'll need more fans and circulation than you would need if you had an aluminum case.

Now that I think about it, this is a cool idea, because you are free to put things where you want, and you're pretty much guaranteed a slightly quieter case because its wood.

I see the server tower case (cause its friggin massive) with 3 blowholes, two rear exit fans, 2 92 or 120mm fans in front as intakes, a sweet custom plexi window (which can be a large square...with the wood cut to your design) with some sweet cathodes and sleeved wiring...
