School Computers & Security

Thread Starter
Many school computers have security policies in place that prevent access to certain applications or websites. You MAY NOT seek assistance here in circumventing that security. Any thread seeking that assistance or describing how to get around security will be deleted. This is in the TOS so infractions are quite possible.

I think you guys are missing the point. Going around your school's security is wrong. If you want to talk about (even if just to say how easy it is); do it elsewhere.

EDIT: For those of you just tuning in, several posts have been deleted.

That certainly isn't a terrible way of looking at it.

What about places to go FOR security for schools?
I'm looking at trying to find a (free?) way to block websites for a school.

From what BFRD has explained, thats the opposite of what he said. You can ask for help in putting security in place all day, its when you ask how to get around a system already in place that will get you in trouble

Yes, I know....

But, in order to put a good security system in place, you have to think about how people get around security in the first place.

Have you tried using the dns server and blocking sites thru it cheap way to do it just take more work.
Nope. I haven't. I will read up on DNS servers then.

I've tried to block traffic through the router's firmware (even tried 3rd party such as DD-WRT), but they didn't work - by entering in words to block or websites to block.

Is it illegal to fix this? I do not have this problem at school but I do at my job and it's really simple to get around. I'm not asking how b/c I know, I'm asking is it illegal? Baring any details I'm sure you know how it is done and I do not see how I'm doing anything illegal if they do not make a certain something "admin" only.

Actually, I don't even know if it's possible to block what I am talking about.

But is it legal?
