Advantages of HT?

Thread Starter
Ok, so i have read like the entire wiki article on HT, but I still don't understand it.

I get that it emulates a 2nd CPU....but I don't really understand the advantages...and I'm considering turning it off.

It's a good thing.
All i know is that somehow it works as if there are two processors. Somehow..

But it isn't causing you to be any slower, it is helping.

Leave it on : ]

Seconded, leave it on. HT creates a sort of "hypothetical" second core. It organizes the data chain that's being processed in such a way that the CPU can do two ops in one cycle (or more like 1.5 ops/cycle because it doesn't have a physical second core)

Leave it on.

alright, thanks!

and, I doubt that your board would even fit in my tower.
Looking at the front of the coumputer, the mobo attaches to the LEFT side with the PCI slots on the BOTTOM....it's really odd.

You can grab a cheap nice case for $30, if you still want to go with my board. It can take your 3.4Ghz to over 4.0Ghz with your current RAM. Let me know!

leave HT i have the same comp (pretty close) and trust me it helps alot in games like oblivion and cs:s, you can easily see a 20% performance difference especially when you are running WMP at the same tim or Folding@Home.
