Exactly, Far Cry, a 3 year old game. If you tried to run Supreme Commander or better yet, Crysis on that, you would seriously struggle. Things change, multiple cores are the way of the future. yes old games lack dual core support, but almost all new games support it, some NEED it - STALKER recommends an X2 4800+ or similar C2D. Soon that will be quad core.

As a guy above me said, if everyone thought like that we would still be chugging along with 50mhz CPU's because they ran whatever came out 5 years ago OK so theres no need to upgrade

I went from a p4 3.2ht with a 5500vid card to a 3800+ dc and a "7300le", I play css, dods, and fear I was happy with my upgrades and did not feal I wasted money, I have upgrade my video card again to a 7600gt and again impressed, each time I could tell a diff... dc in my opinion was well worth the money. My computer starts faster runs simple tasks faster, overall a great upgrade experience.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I totally thought it was a joke.

Now I'm laughing even harder because this guy is serious. I guess $65 for a dual core CPU must be a waste of money.

Obviously anyone who has never used a multicore system has no idea what they're talking about.

EDIT: While I'm at it, SLI, >512MB of RAM, PCIe, SATA2, and everything else considered awesome in new technology are also a waste of money for gaming.

Dude, I don't know why your posting this up, you know you don't like Dual cores, so that with it. You don't need to express it(unless you want suggestions of course, get dual core, its cheap these days)

Don't dis the chap too much, some people don't like to put too much cash into their computer hobby. If he's looking to get the most performance from his $60 or so in games then the graphics card should be the component he upgrades.

To be honest, my previous Pentium 4 Prescott 3.2Ghz, 512MB RAM and FX5700 Ultra 128MB used to run Half Life 2 and Far Cry at 1024x768 with a playable frame rate.

Either way, I'm happy enough with the system I have now even if it is a little overkill. I don't see myself haveing to upgrade for another 12 months (hopefully).

I would have a little more respect if he said something like, "I don't think I need a dual core anytime soon." But a sweeping statement like, "Dual cores are a waste of money," is obviously just looking for trouble.

Especially since like half of the users here use multicores... lol

EDIT: Yeah, I could also play Doom3 on a Geforce 4 and an Athlon XP at 1024 almost playable... but these are like 2-3 year old games.

Really? Last time i checked Quake 4 supports DC CPUs and i downloaded the demo and fired it up. It ran smoothly @ max settings on my single core.
