Pentium 4 in Inspiron 1100

Thread Starter
Hello all. I'm trying to put as much into my aging Dell Inspiron 1100 with a 2.4ghz Celeron in it (4 years old... it's a dinosaur, i know) without buying a new computer.

Most of my work is in photography, and Adobe Photoshop CS2, Elements 5, and Lightroom crawled on my machine unless I had every background program turned off, including AIM and Firefox (annoying trying to upload photos for publication, not going to lie).

I've upgraded the RAM (256mb to 1gb), and bumped up the hard drive space (20gb @4200 to 80gb @7200), both of which helped out a ton. However, I'm weird and want more (or does that make me normal...hmm...).

According to the manual, it says I can put a Pentium 4 in it (a socket 478 with a 400mhz bus). Would a 2.2ghz or 2.6ghz Pentium 4 boost performance any? would it be worth the $40 or so?

Of course, I could always just put the money towards a new lappy for next fall. That opens up a whole other can of worms .

Thanks,
Bob

You wont be able to o/c your Dell thru the BIOS since its locked by the manufacturer so your gunna have to use Clockgen to o/c. Gluck and have fun!
