for XP i would only go with x32 . . x64 has never had driver support. . but with Vista ill def get x64 later. . I have an x64 proc so why not use it? . . i did notice marginal gains here and there in x64 XP compared to X32 XP

64-bit. Better memory management, more stable and is based off of windows server 2003. If server 2k3 is stable enough for corporate useage I would say that x64 is stable enough for gaming use. Thought it does have its bug most of which were driver related, everything works pretty good now though.

I'm not really sure why'd you be going with XP to begin with at this point, but for XP I'd say 32Bit since it's tried and true.

I have no experience on XP 64 but based on what I've read from users on this forum and elsewhere, it was just never that good. Certainly not good enough to upgrade to.

I'd recommend 64Bit Vista though. It's great.

32 - the minute (if any) gains you will notice arent worth the driver trouble

My wireless NIC was a no-go with 64, had to completely reinstall for the interwebs!?!

x64 does have driver support now for almost all periph's....unlike vista64. If you want to use a wireless dongle..good luck, that is still 'uncharted' territory for drivers even these days. Other than that, running x64 over xp, netted me a 800-1000 point increase in benchy scores [cpu only] and does seem to play the "64 bit optimized" games, like Quake4 and others..a bit smoother. As for actuall FPS increase...it might be there. I noticed my cpu uses about 150mb's more RAM during gaming, in x64 than it does running the same game in xp, and cpu utilization is a little higher during gameplay as well. No ill affects though.

Vista: x64 because this is the real Vista. It has more mem addressing space and it's a lot more stable. At the time you'll need more than 2GB of ram this should be the choice.

XP: 32bit because for now there's no need for more than 2GB of ram in most cases. I vote against the XP64 due to the fact it needs more memory than the 32bit and it doesn't offer anything extra. XP was designed for 32bit, as Vista was designed for 64.
