F@H Dual Core Tip - Page 2

I was just saying running the smp client and using 100% of both cores gives more points than the regular client x 2 instances

Yea I tried the SMP on this new E6600 and while it's faster and might give more points it also doesn't save checkpoints and if you ever stop the process it resets at the beginning of the WU! (they say they are going to fix this)

I tried it, read that and went back to the 2 processes as stated in the FAH For C2D thread. I've been running this nearly a year now on my old P4 3.0GHz HT proc splitting 50% of load between the 2 threads. Worked well and get good output so I've gone back to that method with the E6600.

The only thing I've noticed thus far is I went ahead and installed XP Pro x64 and the same settings I used on the P4 now have other applications locking up while the threads are working their magic. Not sure why as it's still 50% per core, instead of HT threads now, and it's really frustrating to have to stop them while doing things like common net surfing. I always stop the services, with batch files, while playing a game etc.

Any hints on the x64 lockup issue?

What? You might want to check on that, mine saves checkpoints just fine...

Yep.. I read it wrong Amazing what 1 missed sentence can do to your opinions eh? Either way for some reason the SMP ran worse for me, dunno why at this time.

Checkpointing is currently not supported (this means that if you quit the client and then restart it, the client will start from the begining of the WU). We will support checkpointing in future beta versions (hopefully released in a week or so), but it is a known issue that checkpointing is not working reliably in the current version.
