Thread Starter
basically iv got a athlon 64 3500+ overclocked to 2.51ghz but want an upgrade
im thinkin about getting the 4000+ as i have heard this can easily be overclocked to rech the same or higher than a standard fx-55 as they are pretty much the same
or was thinking about getting a x2 4200+ which im not sure about its overclocking capabilities
i mainly play counterstrike which i ave heard is mainly like cpus with power rather than the x2 so i am not sure about which 1 to go for,
anyone got any suggestions
cheers

I'd go with an X2 3800 or Opty 165. They will overclock about the same as a 4000+ with a good stepping.

More future proof and won't break the bank.

Btw, Welcome to OC.net.

Half the price for about half the performance in most newer applications. If you are going to upgrade your system don't shy away from the extra few dollars.

The 4000+ won't be much of an upgrade in your case since it is still a single core chip.

You'll need to get a good stepping a relatively decent cooling system.

I recommend the Tuniq Tower or the Ultra 120 Extreme. Both will push that chip to 3.0 because of their great ability to dissipate heat.

Look at some of the threads in the AMD section. You'll know which steppings to look for and which ones to avoid.

The Opteron 165 is the best choice for a socket 939 system in regards to price/performance.
