Cant get past 205Mhz FSB on ABIT NF7-S2

Thread Starter
well, i was upping the FSB the other day to see what's what, and i got to 205Mhz FSB, and that got me to 2.25Ghz. The thing that sucks, is when i try 210Mhz, it will load to the desktop, but in the blink of an eye, it resets. Then, when i put the FSB back down to 205Mhz, its all happy again. is it possible that the CPU just simply cant handle a 210Mhz FSB?? or is it that its too hot when it reaches windows (FYI: ive got the safety reboot set to 60C)

li'll help plz.

Unl33t.

No... it's your RAM (or so that's what I think it is)

Do you have your RAM on a divider?

Your ram is meant for 400Mhz.

You should make your ram run at 200Mhz instead of 400Mhz. (Ram divider at 1:2)

If this make's your computer boot perfect you'll know it's your ram.
If it won't there's some other issue

It may be his ram, but no divider is gonna help him. As far as I remember he is on the lowest divider possible for socket A.

On socket A you can't set a divider that puts the ram at a lower speed than the FSB, and the FSB has reached 205. This gives at the lowest divider DDR410. The ram should handle it though, but with lower timings like 2.5-4-4-9 or 3-5-4-9 and maybe more volts (say 2.9V).

Try these, maybe they will help.

*EDIT The safety reboot can be pushed to 70°C. It shouldn't be unusual for the CPU to run around 50-55° with spikes over 60°C. This could trigger the alarm and reboot the rig.

Totally right Dragosmp rep+

I can see i haven't been using socket a for a while.

Only ddr1 memory at 400mhz @ CAS 2 latency is extremely rare.

So first go like 3-6-6-10 or something in that direction

So basically, if i set the timings to 3-6-6-10 then upp the fsb, then that should be ok? please keep in mind that this is just generic OEM ram, and i was told on a different thread that this kind of ram can only get like a 15Mhz increase.

On stock timings. it won't get much higher then 15Mhz.

But if you'll loosen the timings, it'll go higher.

It's like the freq is the speed at wich the ram has to do the work.
And the timings is the at how much time one job has to be completed.

Loosen the timings and you get higher freqs

The whole story

Your ram is set to a frequency (say 400Mhz 400Millions of switches / second)

Your latency's or ram timings is the number of switches or hertz requiered to do an operation. our ram has several stages so also several timings.

The most effective timing is the CAS latency, wich takes up most time
