MEMORY MANUFACTURER Qimonda said it is supplying a number of DDR3 components and modules to motherboard makers and overclocking memory suppliers.

The DRAM, it said, has already received Intel reference platform validation.

The components it is supplying include 512Mbit SDRAM chips and unbuffered DIMMs at 512MB and 1GB densities, with speeds of 800MHz, 1066MHz and 1333MHz. The DIMMs can be overclocked to 1680MHz said Qimonda.

Intel feller Peter MacWilliams said he expected DDR3 memory to be the overriding tech for several years.

Volume Qimonda production is slated for the second half of this year, but components can be ordered now. The chips are made as part of a JV Qimonda has with Taiwanese DRAMurai Nanya. µ

I was just asking about this a second ago. I guess it's good someone is starting DDR3 production/shipping/selling/etc.

I hear ya.

There's just never a good time to upgrade. This is becoming annoying.
