Overclocking my new rig

Thread Starter
Hi,

All thats left to arrive for my build is now the motherboard (eBuyer messed up delivery ) but should be here tomorrow. CPU (C2D 1.8GHz E4300) arrived today and I may be buying a 6600GT from "prosser13" a mate of mine.

I want to overclock the rig even though the motherboard has no voltage controls. The CPU's stepping is 45a, anybody know if that is any good? How high do you think I will be able to get out of this stably.

Thanks for any help

You could probably reach 2.6Ghz or more on stock voltage. If the mobo can handle it that is....

Max motherboard FSB is 340mhz said the reviews I read...

Thats 3.06ghz think I could get that high on stock?

I looked at the CPU overclocking sticky and there is no one else with a result with my stepping

You will just have to be the first to try then, but I'm sure I've seen some other 45A 4300's. I think at least 266FSB should be ok with stock voltage.

Hey mate,

Yeah, you should be able to get at least 266mhz FSB, fact there are no voltage controls isn't great but at least that'll keep the temperatures low lol

Hi all,

The motherboard arrived this lunch time today and took me a good hour or two to get everything in, which was the easy part - trust windows to mess up after that with problems with a missing NTLDR.

Got that working for now thankfully without losing any data. Currently I have the rig running at 2.3GHz - FSB of 256MHz (didn't want to push it too hard to start) but the temperatures are looking very good so far. CPU idle at 28C and motherboard at 30C. I ran SP2004 and the temperature of the CPU increased eventually to 45C where it remained.

In the BIOS the option is given to put the FSB upto 340 which as prosser13 said it could. I will test higher FSBs soon and give you and update. But so far so good, incredible speed increase from my old 2.2GHz celeron!
But definitely has the potential for greater speeds as the temperatures at present are fine.
