More 2900 vs 8800 Benchmarks - Page 2

I don't forsee the XT becoming a GTX killer. I just hope it does to make people stop and think.(and the price war would be nice)

It's very clear from all the reviews that the XT driver is immature. Yet you still see people cupping their ballsack in glee to run out and buy a (second) GTS or whatever when it's still not quite a done deal. I personally think they'll be JUST like the 7900GTX 1900XT... right on par with one another. The XTX was superior to both, not counting OC of course, but that's not relevant to what I'm talking about.

Do you people remember the initial performance of the GTS(X)s? AWFUL...
A few drivers later they were smokin everything in sight. I don't see something quite as dramatic here but then again, I hope so.

I'm also wondering about ATI's next gen. With as many delays as the R600 has had the R700 probably is closer than we think. It's been hinted at as just as revolutionary as the unified shader architecture that nvid/ati has just released. Something about scaling cores.

Anyone ready to give me my rep point?

The D975XBX2 that they tested the crossfire on runs two PCI-E crossfired cards as 8x 8x electrically. That's probably impacting the performance of the crossfire benchmarks.

I would know, I own one.

I bet we do see a 20% increase with driver updates. I also think that it makes much more sense for those that already went Nvidia to stay with Nvida for this gen and see who is on top next gen. For anyone that's still waiting to upgrade to DX10, or have a crossfire motherboard, those people now have options.

I think instead of new computer hardware I'm going to get the HD 883c Sportster that I've been looking at. Next year looks to be a better time for me to upgrade.

Nice find.

Lets put it this way. If ATI did make a driver update that will boost the card. Nvidia can do the same thing with a driver update on their card.

Any idea on how much of an impact this would make, performance wise, as compared to running them both at 16x 16x like they are supposed to? (Correct me if I'm wrong on the idea that they are supposed to run at 16x 16x.....)

I think that the results aren't that bad in some cases considering the early driver.

Although AMD did claim that the cards have been ready for release for months.

If that is true shouldn't ATi have drivers that are at least a few months beyond Beta drivers.

I am not an nvidia fanboy at all, infact I was ATi until they didn't release a new card and my X1950 Pro failed at stock speeds.

I am sure it won't be long until the XTs show their true colours.

Well the 2900XT is r600 and it's not very good at going against the GTX.
