A New GPU for a Dirt Poor College Student

Thread Starter
Hey guys, as you can tell by the title, I'm looking for a new budget GPU. The Problem is, I'm running a system that only has the capacity for AGP 8x. I prefer nvidia cards and I've been looking around and found a few that I like.

EVGA 256-A8-N542-T2 GeForce 7600GS 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X
ZOGIS ZO68XT-DAGP GeForce 6800XT 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 8X

One is manufactured by ZOGIS and the other by EVGA. I've heard that EVGA is good, but I have no idea about the ZOGIS. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Also, for a budget semi-ok AGP card, am I headed in the right direction?

You're better off with the 7600 because it has Shader Model 3.0, plus EVGA's tech support is phenomenal.

I believe the 6800XT has SM 3.0... I do agree with getting a 7600GT.

Correction... Only the 7-series cards have SM 3.0.

You should check on ebay for that card. It's a fairly old card, so you may find someone who's willing to unload it for like $50

Well, if you aren't completely objected to the idea of ATI, you could get an x1650PRO, which is the cheapest GDDR3 AGP card I could find. It's be a great card for playing Half Life 2, and could perhaps handle some more advanced games, as well. Aside from that, if you absolutely have to have nVidia, then yes, the 7600 GS is the way to go.

Hmm the ATi looks like the better choice. The 7600 & 1600 costs the same but the ATi has better specs. Wouldnt you rather get the best bang for your buck? Unless of course your a fanboy.
