You're basically telling me parents should be around their kids 24 hours a day, which isn't the case sadly even for the best parents.

You have to remember, when kids are at school, who makes sure they stay pure? Oh right, teachers and staff. But when the teachers are having sex with students and the good teachers can't so much as scold a child before getting thrown out butt first, how can you be sure your child will learn properly? And with a cost of living so steep, both parents have to work 10 hour shifts every day just to be able to feed their kids.

And with every teacher giving enough homework that your child can earn a Nobel prize because it's the academic standard, and most of that homework requires a computer with internet access, what are you supposed to do? Sit there with your kid and watch the screen with your eyes glued to it?

How safe a child's innocence is, is 50% the burden of the parents, and 50% the burden of state. You can't argue otherwise. As a parent, is there anyway to keep my child safe if the school they're supposed to go to is raging with violence, drugs, the teachers are perverts and it's unclean? Of course not. Good parenting alone won't protect my child in that environment. So who's duty is it? It's the state's responsibility to make sure every environment of our country is safe.

The internet isn't a controlled environment like your home is. You can control who comes in and out of your house. Unfortunately, with the way the laws are now, you can't control who talks to your child on the internet. You can only create so much resistance. And why should you HAVE to sit there and prevent your child from getting AIM and MSN Messenger? The internet should be safe to the point that your child can set up a Myspace for pictures, talk to their friends on AIM/MSN Messenger and browse web pages. Are you going to argue otherwise?

I think this law was necessary. And I think the only freedom that gets infringed is the freedom of people that download music/movies/programs illegally, and frankly I wanted to start paying for my software/games/music anyway.
Do you know they're trying to make the legal age in CA 16 instead of 18 and in Hawaii the legal age is 14. Most so called child now grow up really fast. I know it doesnt make sense. just wanted to let you guys know

Actually yes. Just name em those names and inside the text file have it say something along the lines of "Hey FBI. Stop invading my privacy because it is sort of kind of UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Have a good one."

Or they could spend $50 and buy a program to monitor, lock the internet to certain websites like myspace, chatroom, X-rated sites, ect........

However, do you think most parents do do that?

The thing that you don't seem to understand is that no matter how hard you try to block their road. One will find another way to get what he/she wants.

You really think that by enforcing the law, everyone will follows? If thats the case, there shouldn't be all these laws on top of on another trying to even strengthen the previous.

No matter how badly you corner a dog, its instinct will force him/her to fight back harder.
On the contrary, they just look for more ways to be vicious with less risk. It's like the saying, "If you want to kill a beast, you cut off its head." or something like that, forgot the exact saying.

Putting enforcement ON the internet, will be our safest security. If you guys really don't like this law, you're basically saying we should do nothing about internet sexual predators.

Think about it, what effective way is there to stop internet sexual predators? The Sting operation by that old guy on NBC tv? Yeah right, give me a break.

As it is, there's a 14 year old girl on my MSN friend list. I met her in World of Warcraft. Why do I talk to her? Because every other day some older guy is trying to talk to her on Myspace or through World of Warcraft and I feel like if I don't stop talking to her, one day one of them is going to get her vulnerable.

And her dad is very good too, he's a good man, decently strict, but what can he do?

Parents are cowards. If you can't take the time to educate your child about this world, you shouldn't have a kid in the first place. "Oh no, billy at school showed our kid porn he is ruined for life..." s**t happens, teach your kid about things he sees from other kids, teens, adults, movies, music, tv.....Take the time, once you have a kid, your life is about raising your child to be a good human being, not to make yourself happy first and help your kid survive til 18....

If some 25 year old guy wanted to have sex with my 16 year old daughter, I'd punch him on the right side of his face so hard the left side of his face will also be sore.

I'll plant him into the ground so deep, half of his body will be a day ahead of us.

I'd personally plant a triple plated titanium alloy cast chastity belt on my daughter and I'd make her wear half inch thick cargo steel chain-mail pants and I wouldn't let her pluck her eyebrows or wear make up. I'd find a job that lets me work from home and I'd go with her to high school every day with a baseball bat called Boom Stick.
