It's a never ending cycle. How can you expect parents to properly raise their children in a world this chaotic?
You're basically telling me parents should be around their kids 24 hours a day, which isn't the case sadly even for the best parents.
You have to remember, when kids are at school, who makes sure they stay pure? Oh right, teachers and staff. But when the teachers are having sex with students and the good teachers can't so much as scold a child before getting thrown out butt first, how can you be sure your child will learn properly? And with a cost of living so steep, both parents have to work 10 hour shifts every day just to be able to feed their kids.
And with every teacher giving enough homework that your child can earn a Nobel prize because it's the academic standard, and most of that homework requires a computer with internet access, what are you supposed to do? Sit there with your kid and watch the screen with your eyes glued to it?
How safe a child's innocence is, is 50% the burden of the parents, and 50% the burden of state. You can't argue otherwise. As a parent, is there anyway to keep my child safe if the school they're supposed to go to is raging with violence, drugs, the teachers are perverts and it's unclean? Of course not. Good parenting alone won't protect my child in that environment. So who's duty is it? It's the state's responsibility to make sure every environment of our country is safe.
The internet isn't a controlled environment like your home is. You can control who comes in and out of your house. Unfortunately, with the way the laws are now, you can't control who talks to your child on the internet. You can only create so much resistance. And why should you HAVE to sit there and prevent your child from getting AIM and MSN Messenger? The internet should be safe to the point that your child can set up a Myspace for pictures, talk to their friends on AIM/MSN Messenger and browse web pages. Are you going to argue otherwise?
I think this law was necessary. And I think the only freedom that gets infringed is the freedom of people that download music/movies/programs illegally, and frankly I wanted to start paying for my software/games/music anyway.
