PSU starting to fail?

i know there are alot of threads about this and i'm sorry. over the past couple weeks i've been having weird system hangs. i'm working on my computer and all of a sudden the mouse stops moving and the computer becomes completely unresponsive. the image stays up on the screen but it wont do anything. and just now when i got home i tried to turn on my computer and it wouldnt start up. it would get to the windows load screen and then freeze (no BSOD). so i ran memtest and it passed fine so i know the memory is fine. i then brought everything back down to stock and it worked fine. i'm almost 100% sure it is not my OC because i've been folding on the same OC for two months with virtually no issues. i'm just wondering if my psu is starting to fail and give unstable power.

What is your OC at? Do you have a voltmeter to check the 12 volt rail?

I wouldnt be suprised if it was your powersupply, ive owned two rosewill psu's one 420w and one 550w, after about 3 months on both the capacitors began to leak and they just went down hill from there..
cour tew duo ftw!

Cheap psu's will deteriorate rapidly when stressed hard. Given your hardware, it's entirely possible the psu has had it. I've had wimpy socket A systems wipe out cheap psu's after awhile. Also cheap psu's are very intollerant to running hot/overheating. Overheat it once and it's junk (found that one out on a cheap powmax 550W).

Keep in mind that 500 cheap watts are roughly equivalent to about 300 quality watts, assuming that the cheap psu actually works correctly. Most of the cheap, and even some midrange psu's report maximum wattage at 25 deg C. Max wattage declines sharply as temps increase. I know for sure PC power and cooling, and probably other high quality makes, reports max wattage at a more realistic 50 deg C.

i'll probably replace it next month when i have some time. and i already knew my psu was crap. i was basically retarded about some things when i bought all my parts and with a month of building my system i knew i should have gotten a better psu just from reading on here instead of newegg reviews that dont know anything and rate psu's after owning them for a week

Picking out a good psu without spending a fortune is really tough. There was a thread here recently that listed some proven psu's in all price ranges that looked pretty thorough. I'll try to find it.
