If AKAeric wishes to start a new thread, I will close this one and keep a stern watch on the new one.

I am sick of mindless ranting and bashing, from both sides. We should be able to have a discussion with backed-up points, not just "Oh well. It's late, so it sucks." Such a blanket statement simply is not provable, and thus should not be posted.

Exactly. All we want in a nice sensible thread with his pics and screens.

No offense to the OP but this thread should have been titled "So my 2900xt got here yesterday"... Come on, would you really put rocks in front a recovering coke addict??? It would have been much more conducive to have started this thread coinciding with the actual benchmark(s).

All that aside I look foward to your results keep us posted.

Honestly I could care less about 3dmark or FPS in a game. I want to see how this tops the last generation in folding performance. I have about 6 days until my 2900 gets here and was curious if the regular ATI folding program would work on this new card. And maybe how it performs compared to the 1900/1950s

I see AKAeric folds so I figure he'd try it. He's OCNs 2900 guinea pig right now

He's OCNs first, I would have posted the same thing even without benches.

Tons of room for improvement with driver updates... as if they haven't had 6 months to have some pasty fellow in a basement somewhere work on drivers. Smell the roses man.
You've already written the card completely off and labeled it as a flop. I'm asking you if you can guarantee me that it's not an enthusiasts bargain on watercooling. If you can't, then there's a market for it. Also, your statement that there is a card that "craps" on the HD2900XT in every benchmark has me curious. You couldn't have been talking about the 8800gtx because that card is beaten in some, not to mention not "crapping" all over the HD2900XT. So with that said, what card were you referring to or were you simply exaggerating the truth?

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/413/14/ - Benchies of 8800 at release

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6170621/p-3.html - recent benches

As you can see, performance can increase quite a bit with time, and in the older article Nvida said they had been developing 8800 for 5 years. Now its 6. It's exciting to see how much the R600 could improve, not that it's slacking.
As 650 comes out, It seems like it should be able to surpass the 8800 GTS fairly nicely, and maybe even become a competitor to the GTX. Even if not, if the performance should be between GTS and GTX, and so will the price, it should be a happy medium. I'm excited to see these benches- especially the folding ones.
