E4300 running WAY too hot - Page 6

Whoa, old thread lol! Hi sammy, unfortunately once you lapped it, it's yours, no way will they take it back now. I had temp issues with my 4300 as well if you look back in this thread, lapping only helped a little. Taking off the cpu's IHS is what made temps drop the most, although it was still a hot running chip no matter what. I'm not saying you should remove the IHS, that's at your own risk, I'm just letting you know why it probably runs so hot. Also, the zalman 9500 isn't one of the best coolers around, it's decent but not that great. Your load temps is what you should check though, not the idle temps.

I recently sold my 4300, but before I did, I sort of found out why. I wanted to see how well the IHS even contacted the core. So I put a good amount of thermal grease, then pressed the IHS back down onto it. I pulled back off the IHS, and the thermal grease on the core only touched the IHS in one tiny spot. It barely even touches, even with pressure! Anyway, that's why mine, and probably alot of other peoples 4300's ran so hot I think, poor contact between the core and IHS.

What I meant was, if I buy a new CPU and try it, can I returr it if I don't like it, without lapping it. I just want to get to the bottom of this. Either my e4300 is **** or something else is the issue.
