A64 3000+ Venice 939 OC Limit?

Thread Starter
hi,i recently managed to overclock the processor to 2520.1 Mhz,i had memory problems before so i've never reached here,is this a good accomplishment?
i want to know how far can i go:
100% LOAD temp(prime 95) 46ºC MAX(average 42-44)
100% STABLE in ALL GAMES/OS(quake 4,virtua tennis 3,DC emulator,UT2004)
Using STOCK cooling.
this is my first OC ever so i have yet a lot of things to learn.

i managed to pull it to 2628.3 Mhz,same settings only raised the HTT to 292.
i'm using vista right now, if the HTT is 295 i get the blues short after i login(F@H runs when windows starts),if the HTT is 300 vista just wont boot, after i choose the OS i get some kernel not found error.
temps remain the same,i'm using CoreTemp to get the temps.
Damn i wanted to get to 3Ghz but it just seems impossible,i get POST the OS is the problem.Maybe it works on XP?

Try loosening up your RAM timings to something like 3-4-4-6 at 2T command rate and using lower dividers to see if your RAM is your limiting factor. Depending on your voltage now for your CPU, you could try upping the voltage with 1.5V being your absolute max. However, seeing that you have stock cooling now, I wouldn't even consider going higher than 1.425V or so unless you decide to get some kind of aftermarket cooling. The only other thing would be to up the voltage to your northbridge as well since you may be nearing the max potential of your motherboard. It would also be a good idea to monitor the temps of the northbridge as well too.

Other than that, you have a pretty good overclock as is. Congrats!

EDIT: Also, to get to 3GHz, you would need 333 or 334MHz on your front side bus and possibly lots more voltage all around. At this point, if you are interested in this project, definitely look for options in cooling off your motherboard and CPU.

My timings are 2.5-3-3-7 2T Command Rate i dont know if this timings are good,RAM is at 333(166 DDR)but when i get to 2700(300 x 9.0) i get POST but vista wont boot giving me an error about the kernel it says it's missing or damaged, then i go back to 292 x 9.0 and system is PERFECT stable it seems i just hit a wall if i go further than that, temp is 45ºC MAX FULL LOAD STOCK COOLING.

I got that same error before when I was doing my overclocking and it was because my RAM was holding me back. If you want to take it a step further, drop your RAM onto the lowest divider (should be 200MHz) while loosening up your timings some more. Going to 3-4-4-7 2T should do the trick just fine. The idea is so you can see how far your chip really goes. Afterwards, then you can tweak your RAM dividers and timings to bring together a harmonious balance that's stable.

ok, i will try that but later on,today i have a math exam(college)so i should study some more and get some sleep.
I will try that on saturday afternoon and post back how did it go.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP,you've been really helpful to me.

Wow, my first comp 3 years ago was the 3000+ Venice. Got it to 2.7 on stock cooling. I later had an opty 144 coupled with a neo4-f that got to 2.7, so keep pushing it to 300FSB, I bet you you can do it. Your temps look right, just tweak and tweak. avoid overclocking memory, it's too much trouble to deal with.
