well dunno if you have seen a zalman before, the HS seems tight, but it kinda wiggles a couple milimeters side to side i hope you understand the pic

my temps in TAT on stock cooling and no OC look just the same..the only temps that actually decreased was on Core temp and speedfan

unfortunately they are supposed to move a couple of milimeters in that duirection, so when you clamp down the heatsink you can twist it slightly to remove the air bubbles. But only twist it once in either direction then let it be. I think you really need to lap that heatsink.

from your screenie, it looks like youve an L2 revised cpu.. those suck!! ive one and cooling this thing is a nightmare. i first had a zalman 9500 and temps were stupidly high.. then, i later got a tuniq, which is in there right now, but temps are still high. i lapped the cpu, hoping to drop the temps, but on a cool day, i get like 62C load under othos..

just like you, ive seated and reseated numerous times, even left the cover of the case off to see if it would help.. my conclusion is: avoid L2s at all cost.. i dont know what exactly is making them cool less efficiently than the B2s, but man is it frustrating.. as soon as ive enough money, im going to tankguys to get a week 29 conroe..

im sorry i couldnt offer any tips or anything like the posts above, but just be aware that it might be the cpu..
working on it...

Guys... I don't know but it still seems like a mount issue.

Either that or you have too much AS5 on there.

What is your vcore at?

C2D's have a lower TDP than the older Prescot's and I tested a Celey Prescot core at 1.53 vcore with a sonic tower @ 4ghz and it only idled at 35C.......

Something's wrong man, I can't believe those chips run THAT hot

i know its unreal it makes nos sence. i mean ok this proc runs hot...but i would belive that when you are over 2.8 or a vcore of 1.30 and even then it shouldnt be that hot. ive mounted and mounted over 100 times now and the temps are still the same...i aplied the AS5 line as it was suposed to. mi vcore used to be on 1.22 but the temps were pretty much the same as of now which is 1.29. maybe 1c less but thats pushing it

also i just noticed the guy on this post
http://www.overclock.net/intel-air-c...mal-temps.html
TAT and speedfan read the same temps pretty much but thats not my case...also hes got a 3.1 OC and loads is cooler than my idle temps ...is there any chance that TAT just doesnt work for me? cuz speedfan readings are similar to mine. thats the only explanation i can find

speedfan and tat for me arent the same. tjunction is different. for speedfan, it would say i was idling at 19-23C.. thats just not possible since my ambients are higher than that.

also, ive tried applying the lined, half rice and spreading over the cpu method for as5. none have really helped. i think i got 'lucky' with my L2 since i can get 3.34 ghz @ 1.46v, but really really hot under orthos. thereve been others here who have hit 500fsb and still load lower than my idle. as for you, i dont understand why since your voltage is so low.

Are you sure you mounted the backplate correctly? If there is a gap in the backplate, it will not be contacting the CPU right. Also, take your CPU out and put a razor on the top of it, using it as a straight-edge to see how concave/convex your cpu's IHS is. You might need a good lapping. I would do the cpu before I lapped the Zalman...dont ask me how or why, but usually Zalman>Intel in terms of 'flatness'. I've had a few zalman coolers..none were ever as off as the IHS was.
