On the X1950 Pro

Thread Starter
In all of the reviews here, I was dismayed to see that the X1950 Pro was consistently being outdone by the GeForce 1750GT by about 25-30%. However, are these the 256Mb or 512 versions of the cards, because I've seen one comparison that had a 512 7950GT against a 256 X1950 pro. Because if all are like this one, shouldn't the 512 MB pro then outperform the 7950? Either way, i can't afford a dx 10 card, so yeah. its one of these.

The x1950Pro is meant to compete with the 7900GS, the 7800GT, and perhaps the 7900GT. The 7950 is in a different category. However, my rig outruns my friend's E6600 7950GT 2GB RAM rig, because I overclocked.

ok here is something the x1k crowd wont admit but it needs to be said the x1950pro is only a 12pipeline card and is missing 4 texture units, and 4 rops. IT has less output power than the 24pipeline beasts and in heavy texture loads it looses to the 7800GT. The entire x19xx line is geared at shaders, wait till a heavey texture load comes around and they will be slower than geforce.

its a little faster than the 7900gs, but id say that the 7900gt is pretty much the same at stock, and overclocks a load more

I have the x1950PRO 512MB version, and me and my friend have the sdame exact HP computers, 4200, 2gigs, all at stock, he has a 7950 I have the ATI, and when benchmarking I got much more marks than him, and plus I got 580 fps in ATITool, while he got 490.

The x1950XTX is also only 16 Pipelines and it stomps the 24 Pipeline 7900GTX. So clearly the number of pipelines isn't everything. The ATI cards have 3 pixel shader processors per pipeline, giving them better performance with fewer pipelines. If ATI had ever bothered to release a 24 pipeline card, nVidia would have been totally speechless as to how their top of the line card got owned so bad.

Ok i am aware of this, but ive seen some interesting stuff about this, go back to Hardware TnL games and run a few benchmarks, remeber these games wont take advantege of the shader, and that is where nvidia will stomp the x1k line of cards.

The r580 has some help from its pixelshaders in anything DX8+ because of the use of pixel shaders lol.

Wait, the x1950pro overclocks more? Ya right. My friend and I both own one from different companies and neither of us can overclock it (well slightly, but only the core, and the performance difference is negligible.)
