PSU = heart of your computer, and should NOT be overlooked.

How much are you willing to spend?

Well ..I see Antec's for about $50 on ebay. $50-75 would be a nice target. After all my system isn't all that shat hot to begin with.

See if you can find an Antec TruePower Trio 550W somewhere around... they're pretty cheap nowadays.

They retail for ~$80 USD.

Just to let you know, I had an XFX 6600 (not GT officially but had GDDR3 and the same spec) and I was getting a similar low-power warning saying that "performance was scaled back to protect your card" or something like that.

I RMAed it and XFX said it was faulty. Unfortunately, the replacement also seems to be having problems with getting the drivers to install without crashing... so I may have been sent a broken one again.

Anyway, it may very well be the card as well. It can't hurt to get a new PSU though... Mine was a 500W X-finity that was stable and works fine with my 7900GS... so my problem wasn't the PSU.

Update... I purchased a new PSU. I got a ULTRA X-finity500.

I imagine this is a step up . So i will put it in and see how things go from there. I haven't had a power warning since I dusted out the case last week either . Regardless a new PSU will help. I have also downloaded a configuration from speed fan and I am using it. it seems to be working . Is it worth my while to use one? Anyone have any ideas on what I could upgrade my CPU to? I have a Socket A MOBO. Are there any viable options? Thanks again!!

There really aren't any viable options. The best you could do is an XP 3200+ running at 2.2GHz, but they are running $50-100 on eBay, which seems excessive.

If you really want to spend as little as possible, your best bet may be to try to find a cheap motherboard/CPU bundle that supports DDR ram.

Probably better would be to find a bundle that supports DDR2 ram. DDR2 is really cheap right now and you could get 1 GB for less than $50.

Something like this could take you far:

You would need to buy a CPU cooler, but you could get a decent one and the 3600+ has been know to overclock very well (not the motherboard though). It also has a AGP slot. If you plan on upgrading your video card soon, this is not good.

Realistically, you may just want to wait and do a full upgrade on the major components because the stuff you have is so old. I am sure many people will be happy to advise you on the components and what are good if you want to overclock.
