Copying Windows Installation to a New Drive

Thread Starter
Hi,
I should be receiving my first WD 80GB Raptor soon.
Currently I have my Windows OS on a drive that I would like to just COPY to the Raptor drive.

This is how I do it:
Using my g/f's machine, hook up my current drive with Windows as drive D: and the Raptor as drive E:
Then go into Windows safe mode and copy the entire hard drive from D: to E:
Then put both drives D: & E: in my machine, with the raptor as the booting drive C:. Then once Windows boots, delete all contents off the old booting drive.

Sound good? Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Yeah, what you want is to load a disk image. If you just copy the data on the drive, it won't work since you can't just copy the registry and boot data.
Once again...

Ok, thanks. Sounds like disk imaging is the way to go.
I'll give that a go.
Thanks again!

I don't know about the software mentioned, but most hd cloning software requires a larger target drive than the original.

Norton (actually, it's Symantec now) Ghost can be booted up via floppy. You install Ghost, make the floppy boot, keep the floppy disks, uninstall the rest. Problem solved. It also allows you to choose a custom size.
