Hey guy i'm new to over clocking. I've been going slowly and I was wondering what the next course of action should be for me. Its a Single Core Venice BTW

Hardware info in sig. Cooling is taken care of.

Please go easy on me as I'm learning!

Simply keep raising the FSB until you find instability, raise Vcore one notch when this occurs and try again. Keep an eye on temps though. You will need to put your ram on a bigger divider the higher you succeed. I had DDR400, i only had to goto DDR333 for my overclock.

My 3800+ Venice Single Core managed to do 2.75Ghz 24/7 for me.

I haven't messed with memory settings. What are the optimal settings you think? The current are in the pic and the stock timings according to OCZ are 2-3-2-5-1T. I guess they got switched to 2T because I was running 4 gigs for a while.

Don't bother about the timings yet.

first you gotta try and get a 1:1 ratio.

So put your ram timings like 3-5-5-8-2t
and slowly up it till your ram freqs the same as your fsb's (or whatever needed to do so on your mobo)

then try a 1t

after that try 2.5-4-4-8
after that 2.5-3-3-5

and so on till you're ram gets unstable.
put it back one step and tada

Adjust the memory controlers multiplyer or HT accordingly...
Default 5x200=1000 200 being the default CPU bus speed
Most MBs are fine up to 1080, after that...
4x up to 260 and 3x beyond that.

Ok. As I said i'm new at this and even after reading several guides i dont know *** was said in the past 2 posts. I hit 2.7 just by upping the FSB to 225. If you could make it a little easier to understand I think i can do it. This Bios isnt fun to move around in either.

Sorry did'nt realize you did'nt know as much

ok so the main purpose is to up your fsb.
Upping your FSB is most beneficial when your ram stays at the same frequency as the FSB.

So if you have a 210Mhz FSB your ram has to be @ 210 too.
Your ram is at 140 as seen from your screenie.

so think of it as a whole highway.
if you're going 140 while you can go 210 would'nt that speed things up

So you're goal for now is to up your ram so it is equal to your FSB.

To do this you probably have to reset your timings.

there are great FAQs about timings on OCN so search and find

K ill start on the timings then go from there. Im not expecting anything more than 2.75 stable. Some ppl have gotten 3.0 with this chip (IDR my stepping to compare) but i try not to get my hopes up!
