Sorry that is not correct...i hate saying that b/c it usually causes "fights" but i say it not trying to be rude about it...

yes at first look TAT reads wrong compared to most other software..but here is why...

Speedfan and MBM5 will read the T_case...from what i can tell thats pretty much the IHS...TAT and only a couple of other programs will read the T_junction (the core itself)

now T_case will be about 15-18c lower than the T_junction...So TAT should be higher than speedfan and other such programs..if speedfan reads core0 at 20c then TAT will show the core at around 35-38c....

hope that clears some things up...and for ref. the max temp under TAT's load tester is 70c...but most try to stay below 65c....

very...if your PCIe freq. is too high the system can and usually will shut down...i have seen as high as 110Mhz with an oc'ed 4300...they ran stable at that...but with little difference...so most just run at 100mhz...

fyi, changing mine to 100mhz is how i got past 360 to 400fsb...

70c is the highest you should go under TAT load tester...there has to be a way for you to shave a few C's off of that temp...but really TAT is testing a load of 100% and usually day to day users won't get close to that kind of load on both cores at the same time...just run TAT then play a game for a while and see what the highest temp TAT showed..i'd bet its under 60c if so you are fine with your temps..

then i am pretty sure your problem is the mobo...if you goto the thread in my sig. you will read in the first post about the bsel mod and bios mods...i think if you flash your motherboard to an older bios (pre 4300 but post 6300) you can get closer to 3ghz...i heard of one who reached 420fsb but runs 400fsb..but i am not sure what bios was used...it was a 945 gigabyte xpress board..

i'll research this for you...

I still think its the 945p chipset holding him back...i thought the 945p needed a bsel mod or an older bios to go above 2.6 with a 4300....

as far as temps go...those 4300's are curved...not sure why..almost everyone that has had temp issues resolved them with lapping or removing the IHS...prob. the reason for his high idle temps..
the reason for that is easy, all those PentiumD's needed a massive HSF, and core2 just reused the HSF

so what you are saying is intel used a HSF meant for another cpu?

or did you mean IHS's??
