Ballistix PC2-8500 & Questions

£111 seemed a good price for these, so I just went and ordered a pair:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MY-093-CR

I have one or two questions though...

I currently run my system at 3.6Ghz, but I know my CPU has got more to give since I've booted and benched 3.8Ghz and once or twice I've been lucky with 4.0Ghz ... although it's not 100% stable.

My current RAM is a steaming pile of ... rubbish ... and won't OC 1Mhz over ~850 without a hiccup at any random time, so my questions are:

a) Could my Dominators be the cause of my instability over 3.6Ghz, since my CPU wants to go further?

b) Will these Ballistix give me more headroom in the OC department? I've read reviews that they're good overclockers... and at 1066Mhz stock, I'll not be stretching them too badly.

Also... can these be run at tighter timings, since the stock is rated at 5-5-5-18? (I think)

Either way I think for £111 the purchase of these should be a worthwhile investment

I love my crucials, they are runn8ing as of right now ddr2-970 4-4-4-5.

I believe they should give much more headroom.

Your instability could very well be RAM related......

Thanks for the feedback.

At the very least it'll give something for me to mess around with for an afternoon
