Open office sucks, you have install windows fonts and everything. Looks liek Office 95
Java pain to install with dependencies.
GUI sucks balls even though if you have the time and skill you can make it look great, but it takes time to configure your X server and get that running and ****.

Annoying dependencies
annoying crap drivers
annoying like everything.

Btw cedega sucks my balls and winex doesn't run ****.

I am not saying Linux is crap, but its a waste of time.

You must of tried Linux 3+ years ago.
Java has no dependencies. Just install JDK and JRE and your done.
The UI looks pretty good by default on most modern distributions.
And yeah cedega and wine are no good. If I want to game. I boot into XP.

That is why Linux will never become widespread. Not just gaming but many other programs that are not made for Linux. Nothing in the near future will replace Windows for home, work, or school PC's. Everyone hates Microsoft but you have to admit Bill Gates is a business genius. INstead of peeing in parking spots he is making even more billions.....

Question are you guys saying that it is impossible for viruses to be coded for Linux?

seriously it took me over 2 weeks to get my ATi Drivers working in Linux...
and like atleast 50 reinstalls, by trying properitary drivers, open source drivers and everything.

There has been a virus for linux, that took over the boot sector. But that was long time ago.

Btw wireless card drivers for linux suck.
The linux drivers for razer and logitech mouses suck.

And installing new apps is a hassle. You don't know whats good or not...
Compiling sucks.
Installing things through scripts (deb, rpm, etc...) are not reliable.
And kerenal updates are hassles.

I think those are just growing pains we are experiencing with linux

lets look at it this way...winblows has had the same problems with every new rollout they have had.

I think that with the widespread use of linux we will be finding more and more apps that are made for it (Captain Obvious over here!)

lol. great post on pure flaming....

i rarely play FPS games... if i could figure out how to imulate windows for (one program and IE) (the program relies on IE) i would never worry about win**** again.

sure playing fear every once in a while is nice....

but my world revolves around a game located at http://www.kingsofchaos.com (its all played via browser) (unless ur an advanced user.....) then there are tools/programs out there to help i.e. a clicker (clicker = program that lets you click thousands of peoples links a day helping eachother)

that one program and IE is all i need on linux and il be happy!

(been thinkin for days to erase my vista install and do another linux boot....) just cant make up my mind of what distro to use....

your flaming only says things about you. perhaps you are just insecure.... or your mother droped you on your head when you was a baby?

whatever it is. its no reason to be a fanboy of win****..... hell microsoft's website shows what windows can do.... slow as a dog and poorly managed.

its bad when linux would be kickin M$'s butt right now if M$ didnt have how many companies/governments backing it?

I wouldn't say it would never become widespread, b/c it is already pretty popular in other countries. Just last week, China said they are moving everything over from windows to Linux, b/c they want more control over everything. They are not the first country to do this either. About every time something like this happens is when MS throws something out about Linux. It appears to just be FUD though b/c they've done it so many times, but never give any support to back themselves up. Even when asked by the Linux community. So it appears to basically be FUD to make the Linux community look bad. Why? Maybe b/c MS is afraid of its growing popularity in other countries.
Linux has come pretty far over the last 5-7 years though. And I'm one to agree that it still has a ways to go. You have to remember the focus of the two OS though. Windows is targeted/developed for the home user. Linux is targeted towards the server world/Unix replacement.
Those two target areas are very different. Only really with the start of ubuntu has there been a big push for making Linux for user friendly and easier to use. And they have done a good job with it too, but yet still more work is needed.

The wireless and other driver things are a pain. But that is not the fault of Linux. A lot of those drivers were reversed engineered, b/c the manufacture does not care to hire one or two more guys to write it for Linux. That however is starting to change. They are trying to start getting the different Linux distro standardized and there are OSS developers who say they will write the Linux drivers for the companies if only they can know the details so they don;t have to try to reverse engineer it.
