Hello all.. A friend of mine has this old pentium 4 laptop that overheats and shuts itself down when runnng virus scans and watching movies. The processor is a 2.5 GHZ Pentium 4. It's a Toshiba Satellite. Anyone know what is causing this?

Notebook fans clutter up with dust easily because of the small space. Take off the cpu cover and see if the fan is really dusty or not. Taking out the fan might void the warranty if there's a warranty sticker.

Well we did that, and we also cleaned out the heat sink. It was loaded with dust, and now it works great! Thanks! +Rep for you
