Hmm when I try to start ATITOOL it says: The kernel Mode Driver does not seems to be running.
A Device driver is required for communication with your video hardware.
Do I have to old drivers or something, I have a 8800GTS 320mb on Vista 64-bit home premium.

I've yet to get ATItool to work on x64 vista.

You can get it to work but it only works about 20% of the time you start your computer.

I think ATitool is designed for 32 bit so can't blame Vista now can you?

I have that error sometimes though, simple restart fixes it. Be sure to be running in Admin Mode

I got to 74 degrees, and 678 core when my entire screen went black. It was a little scary. Luckily nothing was saved when I did that. What would I do if I did save the profile and it did that? The profile wouldn't load automatically at startup would it? I don't understand why ATItool wouldn't find an error before I saw artifacts on the screen? Once I noticed the artifacts it was too late.

ATItool would see that the OC wasn't stable and down clock automatically...

678 is asking for death

OC to 650 - 660 and let scan for artifacts run for 2-3 hours.. See your max temp's after a good while of load.

I only kept it running because it wasn't showing any artifacts and the temp was at 74c (I think I said that). I immediately aborted once I saw artifacts, but it was too late. What I don't understand is this part...

Set the 2D to 500 or less...
Set 3D Low to about 550 - or so. Whichever you want.
Set your 3D high power to your MAX core / mem or less if you want . Mem is the same on all 3...
I'm guessing the 2d setting would just effect everyday normal applications that really don't need to be overclocked. The 3d low and 3d high are what exactly?

And you're saying to use Max mem on all settings?

EDIT: There's an option under "Artifact Scanning" that says "stop scanning after _____ seconds without artifacts" Is that supposed to mean with artifacts and should I use that setting?

In Vista with Aero on the MEM settings you set on the 3D High applies to all of the settings. You can't change each one interdependently.

For the 2D it's basically for things like web browsing but with Vista you are almost always in 3D.

3D Low is when you go from 2D to 3D High but it's like the middle step. Also from 3D High back to 2D... again with Aero on you will always be in 3D.

678 is way to high because the GPU's just can't handle that much core clock. 660 is a very nice OC anyway.

So what you're saying is the 74c mark has nothing to do with why the videocard stopped working? How high is a good memory overclock? I only have it set to 895 right now since I got a little paranoid once the card reached 73c.

73C is fine.. The card has a TDP of about 120.. I personally say no to going over 80C.

The 74C mark isn't the reason of the artifact. It's taht GTS's arn't made for 678.. Only a few rare ones can get there..

My mem is set at 1000 and can go high so
