Help from Linux Newbie

Thread Starter
Ok, So my sister's POS computer died from her downloading free songs, etc, with not good virus scanner. I offered to rebuild it for her, as cheaply as possible. It has windows XP on it, but she doesn't have the back-up disk, and the hard drive is fried.

So, what exactly do I need to get a full free operating system from Linux? What do you recommend? Just trying to save the dough, especially since it seems Linux is free. What all do I need to download. I can transfer it to an external hard drive or cd and then boot up her new hard drive from the cd I think. I'm lost here so any direction is great. Thanks.

You just have to download the .iso file and burn it to a cd as an image (check my sig for that). Put cd in the drive, reboot and boot from cd drive, the cd loads and follow the install.

Might be useful.

Ubuntu is pretty easy.
