ati mobility radeon x1700

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
hey i have recently purchased brought a ASUS G2P Laptop and would like to get the most of the gfx card. The gfx card is 'ati mobility radeon x1700' i have downloaded ati tools but was wondering if someone could help me with a few questions;
What is the risk of using 'Find Max Core' and 'Find Max Mem'
Does anyone know what is a safe limit for this gfx card.
is there a program that can monitor all my laptops temperatures, i tried speedfan but it only seems to tell me the temp of each core of the cpu
Thx 1337PSPer

If your gpu supports thermal monitoring, it should show in ATI Tools or in Catalyst Control Center's Overdrive menu.

ATI Tool is programmed so that when you click on "fix max ____" and you let it run long enough, it will try and find the safest max core and memory speeds. Since you're running a laptop, the safe way to go, in my humble opinion, is to find max clocks, then lower them by up to 5% just to be on the safe side.

FYI, the "Overdrive" option is only available on the ATI XT(X) series.

*EDIT*

Yes, it's normal to use most if not all of the CPU during the ATiTool test.

I suggest running the "find max ___" at night, letting it run while you sleep.

Sorry to hear about the temp monitoring, and thank you Gonx for correcting me on the Overdrive

I don't think find max is doing anything because i think the program is unable to change my memory or core.
