Well I downloaded it and was about to buy a new video card. (8800GTX). I had my frame rates caped at 24FPS. I live in the Chicagoland area so I set my 172 at Palwaukee Airport (KPWK). I usually get 15-24FPS. Mostly at or around 15FPS. After installing SP1 and without changing my settings I achieved 24 FPS locked. It did not even deviate until about the time came to turn for final and the airport was in view. WOW!
I basically kept the settings per the default specifications of HIGH. I did not adjust the sliders at all from these settings. I am running my desktop at 1920x1200 with AA enabled. I am now getting good frame rates from 25-30FPS locked at 30 fps.

I have an older 7800GTX I want to get rid of. Will I see a dramatic difference in gaming especially for my Flight Simulator FSX? Will upgrading to a 8800GTX help.

My thoughts are yes...

I also am running an E6600, but with 2x8800gtx in SLI.

SP1 has accomplished the following:

1. Both cores are now utilized, this may help with fps.

2. My framerates have skyrocketed (as high as 200 PFS in flight, ~50-100 fps on the ground in busy airports) which leads me to believe they may have offloaded some of the graphics from the cpu, to the gpu. If this is in fact the case, your 8800gtx upgrade will help significantly.

I noticed quite an improvement in FS9 going from one 7900gt to one 8800gtx. Of course this is a different story than FSX, but in this case, the game is still cpu laden and the gpu upgrade still had an effect.

I agree with you. The frame rates have increased dramatically. Now I am wondering if I should get a QUAD core and a 8800GTX or wait for the next generation cards and processors.

What are your settings and what type of frame rates are you getting at major airports?

Wow that’s a great fps boost! It takes years to install but I might give it a go. BTW do you think I will see any fps increase? I mean my cpu isn’t hot.

The 8800gtx is an awesome card, but I would wait for the rather drastic intel price cuts on 7/27..

You'll be able to pick up an E6850 3.0ghz 1333mhz fsb for ~275.00

If you wanna go quad, those prices will also drop but be prepared to include some heavy duty cooling, at least a very good water system. The quads pump out quite a bit of heat.

hmmm that E6850 looks good. How did I miss that. Any reviews on this processor yet? I have my memory in SNYC mode right now and very stable. I currently own the 680i motherboard with a rated overclock FSB of 1333mhz. What can I do with this new processor in terms of synced memory settings?
