Odd problem mid-format

Thread Starter
hey guys, my buddy was formatting to XP, and encountered a slight hitch and I've got no idea what the hell is the problem.....

Rig:
AMD 3800+ X2 s939
Asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe
BFG GeForce 7900 GS
2GB RAM
160GB HDD

Basically he was formatting, and midway through the format it said, Format Failed, then it said it'll Reboot in 15 seconds. From there, everytiem he rebooted, it either Froze and BIOS image screen where it says Press DEL to enter setup. if he Presses DEL, it'll freeze at the screen after. Other times monitor wont go on, says no signal detected.

Reset his Cmos already, tried booting without HDD plugged in, no go....

Anyone got any Ideas its a really screwy thing going on

Try different RAM, PSU, etc... all the usual suspects...

Crapolla on the disk... or even a wack reader perhaps.

Try another HDD cable too!
Test the HDD with the makers utility, he may have a bad HDD .

Perhaps a RAM problem?

I was going to suggest that maybe his machined was overclocked but unstable, which would likely cause failures like this. But, since you've already reverted to stock settings, and it's still being problematic, I'd wager it's a problem with RAM.

Hope this helps.

Probably is the RAM as mentioned above, it'll have been under quite heavy usage while installing Windows and it just failed and died, causing the format to die too.
