Odd Freezing Problem

Thread Starter
I am having some odd freezing problems, and I can't quite put my finger on the problem.

Let me start by saying the mobo is only two-three months old, I have RMA'ed the video card once, and the hard drive is also only two-three months old. The power supply is a bit older, but from the readings I am getting with Everest, it shouldn't be the problem. I have disabled onboard sound, disabled IDE channels... disabled the extra SATA ports... basically disabled everything that doesn't need to be enabled to operate.

Now, to the problem: when using an intensive application (only the games I play are taxing, so not sure if it extends beyond 3D applications) it will randomly freeze. Usually I can get in around 15-30 minutes of playing time in, but sometimes it will last for an hour and a half or more; then all of a sudden, it will randomly just freeze. The HDD LED doesn't blink, but the power LED is still on. The fans are still spinning, etc.

I have run a stability test on the CPU (CPU Stability Test), Memory (Memtest86+), and the video card (Video Card Stability Test). Ran the CPU test 8-9 hours, memtest 10 hours, and the video card test 2 hours (which I should run again, in my opinion) and they all came up negative; no errors, nothing.

After I manually shut the computer off and come back, the last readings from Everest are still in the sidebar, so here is what everything was like before it crashed.

Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate it.

Thanks,
Mark

EDIT: This happened when I had an X700, and also I think it happened somewhat when I had a A8N5X, but I am not sure. With both XP and Vista.

could be an overheating video card. Maybe you need to get some aftermarket cooling?

That's what I thought... but I thought I read somewhere that the card should be fine at 50C. I have been thinking its the video card for a long time now, but this last crash it was only at 50C, when it idles at 42C.

I agree, the card needs aftermarket cooling, but if it is indeed the video card, I am not buying Sapphire again.

P.S. Thanks for the post.

Just have some more data to add here:

Under the System event log I have an entry after I manually shut it down that reads as "The previous system shutdown at [Time] on [Date] was unexpected." I am currently trying to figure out if that is entails the operating system was still processing tasks when I manually shut it down (so that way I can figure out if the video card is the culprit.)

EDIT: I wonder if this could be a power supply problem? Which would be odd, considering the voltages never/hardly ever fluxuate.
