Okay updated list with averages on New Competitors + Points they've accumulated since their arrival. Guys stop leaving out FFXI, it's not dead yet and someone left it out of their post which totally messed things up.

Final Fantasy XI: 20
Everquest 1/2: 35
Counter-Strike: 42
Guild Wars: 30

Runescape: 0 (Dead)

The average was 18, so Starcraft, DAoC, Battlefield and Diablo all got 18 + their respective healing, so Starcraft = 18+6 = 24. Get it? Got it? Good.

Also, please leave the whole, "What is an MMO" and what you think MMO is out of the thread please. This isn't a topic to debate or press your belief on what an MMO is. If this was about MMORPG's, again, I would've titled the thread based on that. It's not. It's about massively multiplayer online games. CS:S is an MMO. It's an MMOFPS.

I take Wikipedia about as seriously as I take Fox News, so don't quote them to me. They actually have a GREAT deal of their information that's biased or opinionated. For example, there's no dictionary legal definition of what an MMO game is, versus an MMORPG. It's pretty clear what an MMORPG is.

Now I ask, how does Guild Wars qualify as an MMO instead of CSS? Because it uses swords and you build up your character? All the dungeons are instanced and so is the PVP, so being on such a private controlled environment isn't it almost exactly like CSS, where in CSS instead of armor and levels, you gain rank and prospective stats?

So like I said, this is based entirely on each game having a large multiplayer player-base.

Sorry I left out Final Fantasy...I just copied and pasted Yraen's list and forgot to add FF.

And I thought they all began at 20? So isn't Starcraft at 26? Did it start at 18 because they were introduced in the middle of the thread? (edit: nvm I should read)

I apologize for my mistakes. I wasn't paying too much attention sorry.

Well MMO = massively multiplayer online....
While CSS is an online multiplayer game, it is not "massive"
A lot of these games would not be considered an MMO.

But despite the misnomer i am enjoying it lol. Go starcraft.

Read the post again. I gave all the new comers averages rather than a basic 20 point start.

An MMO is an acronym for Massively Multiplayer Online games. Traditionally, video games only allow for a small handful of players to play together through machines that communicate directly with one another, or perhaps through a single server. MMOs consist of hundreds of servers that are designed to facilitate the gameplay of thousands, tens of thousands, and even millions of players, all playing simultaneously in a world that never goes away (what’s called a “persistent-state†game world).

If that's the case, none of these games are MMO's, not even WoW, FFXI or any of them. Why? Because they all have multiple realms. WoW has over 200 different servers to play on. So does Guild Wars. Guild Wars to a larger extent isn't an MMO because the entire world is instanced to certain groups.

I consider MMORPG = Each server is a never-changing environment that you log into.

I consider MMO = Massively multiplayer online, multiple servers, many different players all managed by the same game engine. Rather than being LAN only or localized and small servers.

Quake 2 = Not an MMO. Quake 3 Arena /Half Life 1 = Probably first MMO FPS game since it had a server search system.
