Help me get past 250mhz FSB AMD 5200+ - Page 2

set your HTT multiplier to 4 if your fsb is under 250mhz and to 3 if it's above 250mhz! HT Link should = 1000mhz

The thing is im not trying to get more Ghz on my proc im going for FSB, i coudl care less if im at 3Ghz or 2.6Ghz (which is stock) the more FSB i get the better my FPS get in CSS (with the fps_max cap off) so far iv gotten 579 FPS on fy_iceworld (i own a 8800GTX) - all stock cooler I idle at 34 load in CSS around 39-40 ( the more people in a server the more i take a cut in FPS thats why im shooting for more FSB ( plus my 8800GTX like to jump all over FPS wise in game, was thinkign with more FSB the more stable FPS i could get as well ).

erm - why do you think more FSB is more important than raw clockspeed
post #14 of 25
FSB speed is not that important in terms of FPS in games. You should overclock your 8800 if you want more FPS. But how the hell can you need more FPS with an 8800GTX? Everyone lags a bit in games, especially when things get hectic. But the fact is that it's probably not your hardware thats limiting you, but your internet connection. Lots of network activity will produce lots of choke and thus lag, so things get all jumpy in game. This is not your hardware being unable to render the surroundings, but your internet connection being flooded with traffic, causing a "Jam" if you like.

The CPU will ALWAYS be holding him back with that card, he just needs to get the CPU as high as possible (which i think he's done with the 3.07 GHz) then tighten the timings and then live with ti

But he is complaining that he lags in CSS, and that his GPU jumps about framerates wise.

Your FPS will ALWAYS jump around. This is because the GPU only has to render the scenery on the screen. If you are staring at a blank wall it will get mega FPS. Stare at a complex model or a nade blowing up and the FPS will fall as the GPU has more to process and render. It's natural, and it's meant to happen. No ammount of overclocking will alleviate this.

If you want to get the most out of your 8800GTX, then wait until AMD reveals its latest offereings with the barcelona core chips, or Intels offerings with the Penryn chips.

The fact of the matter is that no CPU will not bottleneck the 8800's jsut now. They are too good. I I were you I'd stay at about 2.9 GHz on that CPU and maybe tighten up the timings or clock the RAM higher. That should give you respectable FPS.

i do get choke in game... it varys a lot , from 0-50 but I dont feel or see lag at all.... plus im on a 6 meg connection so i doubt its my internet. But for no wim runnign at 280 FSB and the 3.07GHz orthos crashes in like 4 seconds but 3DMark 06 runs fine, no reboots and CSS as well. im also upped my vcore to 1.4 instead of 1.36 orthos still crashes in like 5 seconds lol, but its cool as long as my games dont crash.

For games bandwidth doesn't amtter a huge ammount. Personally I'd take an ultra low latency connection over a 100Mb connection @ 100ms. Are you running a wireless network? Because I think that may be causing the choke, or your MFT packet size may not be set correctly.

no, im wired, but the weird thing is even with choke I dont seem to lag, about the RAM though i have a option in my BIOS called like maxclkgen or something in my ram options should i just run that to get best timing or tighten them manualy?
